What document attestation means

Document attestation confirms that a document, stamp, or signature comes from a recognized authority. When a Jordanian document is used abroad, the receiving authority may ask for translation, attestation, or both.

Authorities that may be involved

• Notary public, depending on document type.
• Ministry of Justice for certain documents and powers of attorney.
• Sharia court authorities for specific personal-status documents.
• Ministry of Foreign Affairs for documents used outside Jordan.

Common mistakes

Starting translation before knowing the attestation path can create rework. Other issues include unclear copies, missing stamps, or confusing one attestation step with another.
